Annika Constantino - DP
I have always loved writing and I enjoy writing stories. It's been awhile since I've written something creatively. In the year before, we didn't get a chance to freely write. This year, I was glad to have been able to write and to do all the small exercises in poetry and stuff. I liked the idea of the combination between Spanish and Humanities, for I really enjoyed the historical things we learned about Latin America. I was really glad to be with Alex and Juan. They were both fun partners to be with and I believe they were the ones that really pushed and made all the cool ideas and plot twists of my story. Without them, my story would've been a lot different. They had so many good ideas and they brought our stories to life and actually made them interesting. My main problem in this project was the limit with words. I ended up writing too much! I should've wrote at least 3000 but I ended up going double the limit. It was so hard for me to cut down the important scenes I had. I really loved what I had written out as a first draft but I had to kill of parts. I need to work on writing really crucial scenes since it is a short piece. I enjoyed this project so much. We worked in a group, yet we worked a lot on our own. I enjoyed getting back into writing and I was really glad to have been a part of the book. I had written almost everyday, and I had felt really happy correcting my mistakes and making my story greater and greater as I made new drafts. I was happy when people read my story and I was really excited when I saw our book printed. I loved this project so much. |

It was often times hard to remain good communication in my group, because our stories didn't intertwine at all. We struggled with having the same desires for our outcome. Something that really helped was how flexible Zion was. He really tried to work through problems and was always willing to change something if it didn't fit well. Writing from an immigrants point of view was really hard, because I obviously don't know what it was like and could only guess. Often times I felt like I really had to watch what I wrote, because it might vibe insensitive. Thought this project I think that my editing skills really improved. I was a chief editor and had to look over a lot of peoples stories. I am usually the kind of person that gives "its good" feedback, but I really tried to spend a lot of time trying to better my peers stories and help them become better writers as well as accepting critique to become a better writer. Staying on task was also a challenge writing about a given topic isn't always the easiest thing to do and I got off task a lot, so I had to write a lot at home. I learned that either way the work needs to get done so if I don't use my time wisely in school ill have to use my free time at home. |

This project really made us put ourselves in the shoes of an immigrant. To make a good story we had to make good characters, and we really had to connect with them. As the whole point of this was to learn more about immigrants and write a story of one, we had to make our characters immigrants which forced us too see their struggles and how they push threw hard times. Also this project helped me improve my grammar and writing in Spanish. It was something I really enjoyed and loved learning a lot about El Salvador and immigrants.
